A Child For Us

Photo Post
I have to say when 2009 rolled in, I was none too happy. There was were so many unknowns with my surgery scheduled just weeks later. Little did I know the journey that was ahead. The indescribable emotional pain. The many tears shed over my uncooperative body. Keeping all this baggage from people I hold close (except Dave) but still needing their support nonetheless. I have healed a lot from last spring.
After wrestling with what our next step would be, God made things very clear for us. I’ll try to share a little of that revelation with you.
Back in October Dave attended a Christian leadership conference called Catalyst. They tend to have a main focus each year and this year just happened to be adoption. But before I go on, I have to fill you in on a little back story. Dave and I have have known each other for 15 years. We’ve officially been together for 12. For some reason we just started using the numbers 143 (pager talk back in the day) for I Love You (I=1, Love=4, You=3). We type it in emails, twitter, facebook, cards, you name it. It’s our thing. Well, after the last day of the conference he comes home and I notice a little leather “X” hanging from his lanyard with little whole punched numbers reading “143″ on it. I’m thrilled to see it because it so represents us. Dave’s eyes begin to fill with tears as he begins to speak of its significance. That little “X” was made by villagers in Africa and the “143″ represents 143 million orphans/widows in the world. I also get emotional because the sign we had been pleading for was made quite evident in a piece of leather. We were meant to adopt.
I think the decision we made to adopt has begun to heal my heart. So now 2010 is here and we have officially begun our journey. I’m not sure I’m ready for another year of ups and downs but I know God is in control of it all.
(Here’s some footage of the “X’s” being made for the conference.)
